Portrait of a man partly from the ancient... - Lot 81 - Chayette & Cheval
Portrait of a man partly from the ancient period. This realistic portrait, typical of the Julio-Claudian period, has been resculpted in several places in modern times, certainly in order to hide certain accidents and missing parts. The back and top of the skull and the mouth have obviously been resculpted, and the base, which was certainly circular originally, has also been beveled. Marble 1st century Roman art and modern retouching from the 19th or early 20th century Height without base : 26,5 cm Damage, missing parts and restorations Provenance: - French private collection - Galerie Sismann, Paris - Collection Louis Simon Domb (1915 - 2000), Paris
