Nicolas PETIT, Master in Paris on January... - Lot 83 - Chayette & Cheval
Nicolas PETIT, Master in Paris on January 21, 1761 Rare little writing desk for a young girl. This piece of furniture of an unusual height of less than a meter. It is veneered with rosewood in amaranth frames. The base with belt without apron The base with belt without apron is with 4 very slightly arched feet fitted with bronze shoes. The uprights are cut on the sides and decorated with a simple garland of laurels. It opens with two leaves under an amusing folding flap hiding 4 layettes and 2 boxes. The lock entries are in ribbon knot. Breche marble top with simple moulding. The stamp is on one of the two front jambs. This piece of furniture, probably intended for a boudoir, is of a great simplicity. H. 92 cm - W 81 cm - D 26.5 cm (A chip in the veneer below the marble, with a key). Our piece of furniture resembles in all points the secretary appearing in the book of P. KJELLBERG Le mobilier français du XVIIIe siècle, Les éditions de l'amateur, p. 650. But, if it is as simple as ours, it undeniably presents the comfort which, from the end of the end of the XVIIIth century, will privilege the mixed and small size furniture.
