Henri JACOB (1753-1824), Master in Paris... - Lot 55 - Chayette & Cheval
Henri JACOB (1753-1824), Master in Paris in 1779 Three finely carved beech boudoir seats Model with periwinkles This set is composed of a pair of convertible armchairs and a paphos. Period LOUIS XVI (circa 1788-1789) Rare decoration of periwinkle tortoiseshell bundles with beaded heels. Flowers run on the backs and for the armchairs on the embrasures. A ribbon knot unites this floral decoration at the bottom of the backrests of the two armchairs. The belts are with truncated fluted and beaded friezes. The tapered feet are fluted, rudented and alternatively asparagus. The indentation of the armchairs is highlighted with an acanthus tree at an angle. The console armrest supports are carved with an acanthus and finished with a frieze of pearls. The small panache of the armchair backrests is carved with a peony knob. The periwinkle entered the love potion, giving new vigour to broken relationships". The grey paint is tired, it "clogs up" the rich sculpture of this set. The tops of the paphos' backs are to be restored and the feet of this curious seat are fitted with brackets. The stamp, very legible and frank, is only on one of the armchairs.
