Square table clock with striking, stamped on the movement 'MN', southern Germany, second half of the 16th century. Dial with 24 hours in two scales divided at 15 minutes, the one for hours I to XII with Roman numerals, the one for hours 13 to 24 in Arabic numerals, both surrounded by key pieces, center engraved with symmetrical foliage of which some leaves metamorphose into bird heads, cherub heads in the corners, an iron hand ; iron and brass movement with two gear bodies and two levels, transformations, iron barrels, verge escapement with foliot (modified), striking on a gong placed below the dial, counting wheel on the back plate; gilded brass case each side openworked with a triple arcade and engraved with the four evangelists represented in the study with their symbolic animal next to and opposite a landscape. 11.6 x 11.6cm. H. 7.3cm. Interesting work by a hitherto unrecorded maker.
