Chimney clock with striking at the half-hour... - Lot 296 - Chayette & Cheval
Chimney clock with striking at the half-hour mark signed (dial), 'Robinet à Paris', circa 1785. White enamel dial, Arabic numerals, openwork gilt brass hands; round movement, count wheel on the outside, single balance wheel with silk thread suspension and sunburst lens; gilt brass cylindrical case mounted between two flat pillars with military sconces and gilt brass frames, both flanked by gilt bronze vases, white marble base, cylinder flanked by two griffins and surmounted by a floral trophy. H. 43cm. Pierre Robinet (born in 1751), is the son of Jean Baptiste Robinet (d. before 1766). Apprentice in 1766 to his father-in-law Nicolas Louis Cuisin, he became Master in 1776 and worked in the rue Greneta between 1778 and 1789. He is perhaps the same as Robinet 'horloger en chambre' listed in the Guide Azur for 1812. The clock is accompanied by a report made by André Delvaille, antique dealer, rue de Beaune in Paris, 26 June 1982.
