Rare first edition of this splendid collection illustrating the various facets of Baroque decoration and architecture, based on the drawings of Giuseppe Galli Bibiena (1696-1757), an Italian architect and painter who was also a theater decorator. The work consists of [4] engraved leaves (a frontispiece, the title, the dedication, the portrait of the dedicatee, the emperor Charles VI, engraved by Andreas and Joseph Schmuzer after Martin de Meÿtens), [1] typographed leaf (address of the author to the readers), and 50 numbered plates in 5 series of 10, engraved on copper, most of them by Johann Andreas Pfeffel, some of them unsigned and a few others by A. J. Schmuzer, L. Zucchi, and Salomon Kleiner. Modern label on the back cover, from bookbinder Ferdinando Benini in Faenza. (Fowler 136; Cicognara 431).
