CAMBRY (Jacques). Report on burials, presented... - Lot 10 - Chayette & Cheval
CAMBRY (Jacques). Report on burials, presented to the central administration of the department of the Seine. In Paris, from the Imp. of P. Didot l'aîné, An VII [1799]. In-4, [2] f., II-83 p., pl., waiting cardboard, pink marbled paper spine (boards faded, edges and corners worn; light spotting on the pl.). First edition of this project by the architect Jacques Molinos (1743-1831) to build a cemetery in Paris. The report written by the historian Cambry, in a rather poetic literary style, takes the form of a dissertation on the end of life and funeral ceremonies, summoning the abundantly quoted ancient authors. It ends with a description of Molinos' project, planned for the site of the Montmartre hill, and called "Champ de repos". The illustration is composed of 9 plates engraved on copper from the architect's drawings.
