In-8, [2] f., III-663 p., 8 pl., figs., contemporary half-calf with corners, spine with 5 nerves, red title-piece, double cold fillet on the boards, edges speckled (scratch on the lower board, slight rubbing; moderate russeting on the boards, tear without damage to the plan). First edition of the major work of J.-B.-A. Godin (1817-1888), founder of the Familistère de Guise and initiator of an innovative professional and social organization. The book develops his theories and describes precisely their application. The illustration consists of 8 plates, including a large folding lithograph offering a panoramic view of the Familistère, as well as numerous woodcut figures in the text illustrating the history of human habitation.
