LETAROUILLY (Paul). Édifices de Rome moderne, ou Recueil des palais, maisons, églises, couvents, et autres monuments publics et particuliers les plus remarquables de la ville de Rome... One volume in-4, 770 p., modest green half cloth + 3 volumes in-folio, half chestnut morocco with modern corners, spine with 5 nerves, gilt author, title and tomaison (rubbing to the headpieces and nerves, moderate scattered foxing; vol. of text: int. hinge cracked, spine faded, light mottling in the margins of head) Important work by the French architect Paul Letarouilly (1795-1855), a student of Percier and Fontaine, who stayed in Rome in the 1820s, and published it between 1840 and 1855. A composite copy of which the atlas has been carefully prepared and well bound. The atlas contains 354 engraved plates as follows: vol.1 (1856), 1 false title (restored), 1 engraved portrait, 1 engraved frontispiece, [2] f. (title, dedication to Louis-Philippe), p.3-4 (notice to the reader, table); 1 double engraved plan of Rome dated 1838 (heavy foxing); plates nm. from 1 to 114. - Vol.2 (1868), [2] f. (faux-title, title), 2 p. (notice, table); plates num. 115 to 231. - Vol.3 (1874), [4] f. (half-title, title, notice, table); plates num. 232 to 354. The text volume consists of XXVII-770 p., 3 plates and numerous figures in the text.
