A Paris, chez Anisson, 1702. 4 volumes in-8, contemporary speckled tan calf, spines with 5 nerves, brown title-pieces, stamped tomaisons, ornamented caisson, gilt arms on the boards, gilt roulette on the edges, edges speckled (defects including dull corners, uncovered headpieces, worms' spots on the tail of 2 spines; browning; without the portrait of Louis XIV; missing p. 127-128, 139-140, 147-148 of vol.4). Unique edition of this work composed by the military engineer and cartographer Allain Manesson-Mallet (1630-1706). It is amply illustrated with nearly 500 full-page copper-engraved figures, as well as a portrait of the author. The work with technical aims is also a pretext to represent many places around Paris, including the castles of Versailles, Saint-Cloud, Chantilly, Marly, as well as many views and buildings of Paris, and some cities in Europe. Copies with the arms of Aubry de Castelnau; old signature "Joseph Aubry Duplessis (?)" rubbed on the titles; old manuscript bookplate "Deslandes". (Cohen 673-674; Pastoureau 335 sq.).
