PALLADIO (Andrea), SCAMOZZI (O.B.). The buildings and designs of Andrea Palladio collected and illustrated by Octave Bertotti Scamozzi. In Vicenza, by Jean Rossi, 1796. 4 volumes in-4, old green half vellum, smooth spine, title page, restored and reassembled without finesse [With]: The Baths of the Romans... Id., ibid., 1797. 1 volume in-4, half marbled basane, spine with 5 nerves, red title-piece, restored (moderate russeting). First edition in-4° of this important collection of Andrea Palladio's work, compiled and published by Scamozzi. The original appeared in-folio between 1776 and 1783. Scamozzi was responsible for the rediscovery of the Roman baths plates after Palladio's disappearance and never published them; only part of them were published in London in 1732. This collection was sold separately, but it was customary to include it with the four volumes of the work. The illustration consists of 235 [of 236?] plates and 1 [of 2] frontispieces, all engraved on copperplate: vol.1, 53 plates, one of which is not numbered opposite p.35, 52 numbered at the end of the volume; vol.2, 51 plates; vol.3, 51 [of 52?] numbered plates (plates 35 and 36 are on the same leaf. Missing plate 33 of this volume, which seems not to have been published, or at least would be missing in most copies); vol.4, 54 plates; Thermes: front. and 25 plates. Missing from vol.1 is the frontispiece, a copper-engraved portrait of Palladio by P. Bonato after David Rossi, which is found in the following volume which is enclosed: - PALLADIO (Andrea), SCAMOZZI (O.B.). The buildings and the designs... Vicenza, Rossi, 1796. Volumes 1 to 3, in one volume in-4, contemporary brown half-bassane, red title and giblets (spine very worn with cover lac. at spine ends and headpieces, qq. russ. in margins, worms' trav. in margins of plates of t.2). Frontispiece, 53 + 51 + 51 plates. Also enclosed is the Italian edition of the Thermes: - PALLADIO (Andrea), SCAMOZZI (O.B.). The term of Romani... Vicenza, Rossi, 1797. In-4, 55 p., frontispiece and 25 plates, modern brown half-chagrin with corners, 5-ribbed spine, fawn title page, gilt roulettes (qq. russ. in margin). That is 7 volumes. (Cicognara 598).
