[Gardens]. PANSERON (Pierre). Important collection of works relating to gardens and their development, consisting mainly of engraved suites, in 3 volumes (some pl. in deficit): 1. Collection of gardening composed by the Sr. Panseron... A Paris, chez l'auteur, et chez Desnos, Mondare..., 1783. In-4, [5] f. (title, introd., catalog), 4 quires of plates, contemporary brown speckled basane, spine ribbed, title page (very worn binding, lac. on the spine; traces of dust in the margin). This volume contains : - Ier cayer de jardinage contenant les bosquets, jeu d'oye et labyrinthe de Choisi le Roi. 5 plates (on 6). - IIe cayer de jardinage... containing groves and cloister.... 6 plates. - 3rd layer... containing groves, gallery of greenery, theater... 6 plates (numbered 1 to 5 and 23, this one probably reported). - General provisions for the distribution of the gardens... 7 plates (of 10). Provenance : Nicolas François de Neufchâteau, politician, 1750-1828 (armorial bookplate). 2. Cayer containing in six plates, the projects of three different hot greenhouses, with all the details in large, to serve as embellishment to the English and Chinese gardens. [1785]. 6 plates. - Bound after]: Cayer containing in 5 plates, the plans, sections and elevations of a first project of a new greenhouse for the conservation of orange trees... 5 plates. - Bound to the suite]: Cayer containing in 3 plates the plans and section of the 2nd and last project of a new greenhouse for the conservation of orange trees, by means of several small reels the straw cover rises to give air in fine weather and soft rain. 3 plates. So 3 suites in one volume in-4, modern brown half-chagrin, spine with 5 nerves, red title page, gilt fleurons, red edges. 3. First [- tenth] book of English Gardens in the most new taste Paris, Letouzé, Vilquin, [circa 1781]. In-4, 19th c. Russian half leather, smooth and mute spine (headpieces torn off, corners worn, upper bit split). A suite of ten booklets of engraved plates containing 51 (out of 60) engraved plates (42 single and nine double). One plate is missing from section 8, 3 from section 9, 5 from section 10; sections 1 to 7 are complete. At the end of the volume are 2 fragmentary suites from a 19th century publication, in Paris by Bance, after the drawings of Seheult (Maisons de Rome, 4 pl.; Maisons d'Italie, 3 pl.). That is 3 volumes.
