PATTE (Pierre). Essay on theatrical architecture, or On the most advantageous order for a theatre, relative to the principles of optics and acoustics. With an examination of the principal theaters of Europe, an analysis of the most important writings on this subject. In Paris, by Moutard, 1782. In-8, [2] f., 212 p., [3] pl. in contemporary spotted tan calf, smooth spine (binding very rubbed, headbands worn, brownings). Unique first edition of this treatise composed by the architect Pierre Patte (1723-1814), who was the assistant of Jacques-François Blondel, whose Cours d'architecture he completed and published. The work is mainly based on the architecture of Italian theaters, whose plans appear on the last two plates. Attached : COCHIN (Charles-Nicolas). Project of a theatre for a comedy theater. In London, and is in Paris, at C.-A. Jombert, 1765. In-12, [2] f., 39 p., 6 pl., modern marbled boards, margins preserved (light spotting on the pl. and in the margin of the 1st ff.). Unique edition of this project imagined by the designer and engraver C.-N. Cochin. It is illustrated with 6 folding plates engraved on copper by Marvye, showing 2 plans, 5 sections and the view of the ceiling of the projected building. That is 2 volumes.
