[Engraving]. [Topography]. [London]. Profile... - Lot 83 - Chayette & Cheval
[Engraving]. [Topography]. [London]. Profile of the city of London cappitalle of the kingdom of England. H. Picart fecit. [Paris], Boissevin excudit, 1643. One engraved copperplate view, ca. 25.5 x 79.5 cm. (copperplate); margins and miter included 38 x 100 cm. (one crease creased and browned with faint wetness, small restoration in margin at v°; snags in margin). Very rare engraved panoramic view of London. It is part of the extremely rare atlas published in Paris by Jean Boisseau between 1642 and 1648, the "Theatre des citez". This copy bears the address of the merchant Louis Boissevin, visibly regraved on the original copperplate. When Boisseau ceased his activity, around 1648, Louis Boissevin recovered part of his business which he continued to exploit. Many places and buildings in the city bear their engraved designation. Old handwritten title on spine; tab in left margin and trace of central tab on spine. (Pastoureau, Les atlas français, Boisseau I, n° 31, address of Jean Boisseau).
