[Engraving]. [Topography]. [Orléans]. Profile... - Lot 95 - Chayette & Cheval
[Engraving]. [Topography]. [Orléans]. Profile of the Ducal and Episcopal City of Orleans, Formerly the Capital of the Kingdom of the Same Name. [Paris], Louis Boissevin excu[dit], [ca. 1650]. One engraved copperplate view, ca. 25.5 x 69.5 (copperplate); margins included 32.5 x 82.5 cm. (one marked crease, light wetness and 2 small holes on the legend, margin defects). Very rare engraved panoramic view of Orleans. It is part of the very rare atlas published in Paris by Jean Boisseau between 1642 and 1648, the "Theatre des citez". This copy bears the address of the merchant Louis Boissevin, visibly regraved on the original copperplate. When Boisseau ceased his activity, around 1648, Louis Boissevin recovered a part of his fund which he continued to exploit. Legend in the margin under the engraving. Mitre mark on the back. (Pastoureau, Les atlas français, Boisseau I, n° 3, address of Boisseau).
