Search, collect, save, reconstitute. These terms could form the motto of the bibliophile architect whose collection will be offered for sale this Friday, December 16 [La Salle, 20 rue Drouot, 75009 Paris - 2:00 pm].

Passionate about the history of his art and the works of his most illustrious predecessors, as well as those of the most discreet, he has not ceased, for years, to save from destruction books of architecture and decoration, among the most significant, the most precious and the rarest, since the 16th century until the 20th century. Always on the lookout for the missing fragment, the plate, the preface, or the dedication, he has acquired a very large number of leaves and fragments that have allowed him to bring back to life works that an ordinary amateur would have condemned to disappear.

Thus, among the books in this sale are 16th century editions of major works of architecture by Androuet Du Cerceau, Philibert Delorme, Vitruvius, Serlio, as well as other treatises such as Le Songe de Poliphile, or the Livre de perspective by Jean Cousin. The 17th and 18th centuries are illustrated in particular by the works of the engravers Lepautre, Jean Marot and others, and the collections of plates published by Pierre Mariette. Some works deal especially with the art of gardens.

At the end of the sale, comprising 220 lots, books in mannettes will be offered, including a large number of portfolios of old and modern plates.
