Charlotte van Gaver

Charlotte van Gaver has been leading the Chayette & Cheval auction house since 2016, after four years of partnership.

Graduated in Law and Art History (1st Cycle of the École du Louvre, Class of 2005), Charlotte van Gaver completed her training with various professional experiences in galleries (Thomas Williams Fine Art, London) and auction houses (Christie's Paris, Aguttes ...).

In 2007, she passed the aptitude exam to manage auctions and was appointed in 2013 as a judicial auctioneer at the Paris Court of Appeal.

In 2022, Charlotte van Gaver obtained the qualification of "Commissioner of Justice".

Our mission: "Your objects, Our values"

With the goal of always defending "Your Objects, and Our Values", the Chayette & Cheval firm operates in the following areas:

• Expertise, advice, and auction sales of any object related to the "Mechanisms of Time", our specialty: pocket watches, carriage clocks, clocks and small clocks, marine chronometers, astrolabes, gnomons, etc.

• Expertise, advice, and auction sales of all art objects, whether individual or grouped in collections or "household contents": jewelry, coins, silverware, drawings and paintings from all periods, Asian arts, Russian arts, ceramics, antique, modern, or contemporary furniture (Design, Decorative Arts), photographs, sacred art, etc.

• Inventories and judicial appraisals required in the context of succession, division, legal protection, insurance, or any comprehensive reflection on a heritage.

• Advice and guidance towards partner professionals: notaries, insurers, adult protection associations, transporters.

Our sales

The Chayette & Cheval auction house organizes around forty sales per year: Specialty Sales, Thematic Sales, and Classic Sales.

These sales are organized traditionally in a sales room, with a strategy planned in advance to best showcase your objects and target the best buyers: they benefit from public exhibitions.
The Specialty Sales, dedicated to the Mechanisms of Time (Horology and related sciences), have been held for over 40 years in June and December.

Thematic Sales (cataloged sales dedicated to furniture, jewelry, and art objects) are organized once a month or every two months.

These Specialty and Thematic Sales generally take place in Paris, at the Hôtel Drouot or La Salle Drouot, rue Drouot, in the 9th arrondissement. They may also occasionally take place at the seller's residence or in an unusual location (luxury hotel, gallery...).

Classic Sales (also called "current sales" or "household contents sales") are held monthly. They take place within the dedicated sales space at our partner storage facility.

Finally, the Chayette & Cheval auction house organizes monthly Vehicle Sales in the same dedicated space.

All sales benefit from targeted communication to enthusiasts and collectors, with online catalog publication and live access to the sales on our specialized partner platforms: Interencheres.com and Drouot.com.

The Chayette & Cheval auction house also regularly organizes Online Sales, accessible on Interencheres.com or Drouot.com

Our collaborators

Supported by a team of permanent, English-speaking collaborators and a network of over 20 partner experts and consultants, the Chayette & Cheval auction house is often called upon during significant moments in private life, the famous "4 Ds": Desire, Move, Divorce, Death. Indeed, one parts with an object, a collection, or the contents of an apartment for various but never trivial reasons. It is therefore essential to know how to accompany this sale or division with a reassuring environment and tailored solutions. We ensure that our collaborators meet these needs and feel involved.
