CAMBRY (Jacques). Description of the department of Oise. In Paris, from the Impr. of P. Didot the elder, year XI - 1803. Two volumes in-8, VIII-424-IV-88 p. + XXIII-436 p., tabl. in stapled paperback, contemporary dust jacket, title stamp on spine, with full margins and uncut, as issued; and one oblong atlas in-4, modern azure boards, smooth and muted spine; all in a modern blue slipcase (light spotting at the end of t.2). First edition of this remarkable detailed panorama of the department. It contains 2 folding tables in the text volumes; the atlas consists of VII pages and 46 plates engraved with aquatint or intaglio, including a frontispiece and a map. Jacques Cambry (Lorient, 1749 - Cachan, 1807) was administrator of the department of Paris (1799) and prefect of the department of Oise from 1800 to 1802. Philologist and antiquarian, he was one of the founders of the Celtic Academy and its first president. Copy enriched with a letter signed " Bourgeois Cambry ", very probably autograph of the author, dated Cachan, 23 Messidor year 11 (July 12, 1803), addressed to M. Dance, former canon, in Beauvais. 3 p. in-4°, address on the v°, remainder of seal. It is in particular question of the book.
