Taken from the Recherches des figures de Cesar Ripa, moralized by I. Baudoin. A Paris, chez Mathieu Guillemot, 1644. 2 parts in one volume in-folio, [12] f., (including the title and the engraved title with the date of 1643), 204 p. ; [1] f. (engraved title), 102 pp., [5] ff. 103-196 p., antique ivory vellum, spine with 4 nerves and mute, restored, endpapers renewed (title faded with old annotations crossed out; 2 f. missing, t.1 p.65-66 and t.2 p.127-128; at least 5 f. brought from another copy, t.1 p. 11, 21 and 99, t.2 p.59 and 61; angular spotting, browning). First complete edition in French of the translation given by the academician Jean Baudoin. The illustration includes 2 allegorical frontispieces and numerous iconological figures in the text, engraved on copper by Jacques de Bie (1581-c. 1640). (Landwehr, Romanic, 634).
