[Engraving]. [Topography]. [Brussels]. Profile of the city o - Lot 78
[Engraving]. [Topography]. [Brussels]. Profile of the city of Brussels, seat and residence of the dukes of Brabant. A Paris, chez Lou[is] Boissevin, [ca. 1650]. One engraved copperplate view, ca. 28 x 69.5 cm (copperplate); margins included 37 x 98.5 cm (creases not severe, small stains in margins). Very rare engraved panoramic view of Brussels. It is part of the extremely rare atlas published in Paris by Jean Boisseau between 1642 and 1648, the "Theatre des citez". This copy bears the address of the merchant Louis Boissevin, visibly regraved on the original copperplate. When Boisseau ceased his activity, around 1648, Louis Boissevin recovered a part of his fund which he continued to exploit. Legend in the margin under the engraving. Old handwritten title and trace of a mitre on the back. (Pastoureau, Les atlas français, Boisseau I, n° 29, at the address of Boisseau).
